Terms of Service

By using the Textful macOS app or the website at textful.app, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
The Product
Textful is a local plain-text and markdown editor for macOS. It runs on your Mac and works with files and folders you choose. It may also include related tools such as an embedded terminal, a command-line helper, software updates, and optional feedback to us. We may update, change, suspend, or stop distributing the app or the website at any time.
License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Textful on Macs you own or control.
You may not:
- Redistribute, sublicense, or sell the app as if it were your own product
- Remove proprietary notices from the app
- Reverse engineer the app except to the extent applicable law allows
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
Your Content
You own the files and content you create or open with Textful. We do not host your notes. You are responsible for backing up your data and for how you use the app, including any shell commands you run in the embedded terminal and any third-party tools you invoke from it.
Updates
The app may check for updates (via Sparkle and our update feed) and offer to download and install newer versions. You are responsible for applying updates you choose to install. We may change or discontinue update channels at any time.
Website, Waitlist, and Accounts
The website may offer downloads, an update feed, a waitlist or early-access list, feedback endpoints used by the app, and account features when enabled. If you create an account or join a waitlist, you must provide accurate information and keep any credentials confidential. We may suspend or remove access that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or harms the service.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Textful or the website for unlawful purposes; not to interfere with the website, APIs, downloads, or distribution of the app; and not to abuse rate limits, automate excessive requests against our endpoints, or attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer our services beyond what applicable law allows.
Third-Party Software and Services
Textful includes open-source components (for example syntax highlighting, icon fonts, the Sparkle updater, and terminal emulation). Those components remain under their own licenses. Notices are available in the app under Settings → About and in the project’s third-party documentation.
Features that rely on Apple services (for example iCloud Drive folders you choose, or system Writing Tools / speech / spelling on supported Macs) are subject to Apple’s terms and policies as well as these Terms.
Disclaimer
Textful and the website are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the app or website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Textful and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of the app or website (including loss from shell commands you run or files you edit). Our total liability for any claim relating to the app or website will not exceed the amount you paid us for Textful in the twelve months before the claim (or zero if you paid nothing).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the app or website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
